    Installation guide for MeterMate Setup

    How to install MeterMate:

    1. Activate the electricity meter's HAN port
This is done via your energy supplier's website or app.

    2. Connect the real-time meter to the electricity meter
Check that the electricity meter has an RJ12 port (HAN port).

When you connect the real-time meter it should start.

Some meters require an adapter (e.g., RJ45) to start.
In these cases it may take a few minutes for the real-time meter to start.

For more information, see the section on adapters under Accessories.

    3. Place the real-time meter correctly
Mount the real-time meter in the meter cabinet using the built-in magnets.

If the WiFi signal is weak you can mount it on the outside of the cabinet.

Check that the cable is not pinched between the cabinet and the door.
If the real-time meter is mounted outdoors the cable should point down.

Use the supplied mounting plate if the surface is not magnetic.

If you have problems with WiFi there are more tips under WiFi settings.

    4. Connect the real-time meter
Download the MeterMate Setup app or your supplier's app according to the instructions that came with the delivery.

Follow the steps in the app to connect the real-time meter to your electricity supplier.

You can see how this is done in the video above.

Adapters

  • Kamstrup

If you have a Kamstrup Omnipower electricity meter, a MeterMate adapter is required for the real-time meter to work.
Kamstrup's own adapters cannot be used because they do not supply power to the real-time meter.

    How to connect the adapter:

    1. Install the adapter in the meter's accessory compartment as shown.
Make sure it is seated correctly.

    2. Connect the real-time meter to the adapter.

    3. Check that the middle light starts blinking.

    4. Follow the instructions in the installation app to connect the real-time meter to your supplier.

  • RJ45

If your electricity meter has an RJ45 port you need to use an RJ45 adapter between the electricity meter and the real-time meter.
The RJ45 connector looks similar to the RJ12 port on the real-time meter, but is larger and has more contacts. See image.

    How to connect the adapter:

    1. Connect the cable that comes with the adapter between the adapter and the electricity meter.
Make sure the connectors click into place.

    2. Connect the real-time meter to the adapter.

    3. Check that the light in the middle starts blinking.
Note that it may take up to 2 minutes for the real-time meter to start when using the RJ45 adapter.

    4. Follow the instructions in the installation app to connect the real-time meter to your provider.

Wi-Fi settings

  • Access point

Check the following in your WiFi access point's settings:

    1. The access point should be configured for 2.4 GHz WiFi (5 GHz is not supported) and comply with the standards IEEE 802.11 b/g/n.

    2. Your WiFi network must be visible.
If you use a hidden network you need to enter the network name manually in the setup app when you connect the real-time meter.

  • Optimize conditions

Do the following to create the best possible WiFi conditions:

    1. Make sure the distance between your WiFi access point and the real-time meter is as short as possible and that there are as few obstacles in the way as possible.
Concrete or metal walls can severely reduce the range.

    2. Mount the real-time meter outside the electrical cabinet if the signal is weak.
Check that the cable is not pinched between the door and the cabinet.
The real-time meter can be mounted outdoors, but should then be positioned with the cable pointing downward.

    3. Placement
Small position adjustments can affect the signal.
For example, it may be better to mount the real-time meter higher up. Experiment to find what works.

    4. WiFi extender
You can improve coverage with a WiFi extender. Place it between the access point and the real-time meter.
Make sure to connect the real-time meter to the extender's network during installation.
